Abstract

The congenital absence of deciduous teeth is a problem. With the exception of the third molars, the second mandibular premolars (2.5-4.5%) are most frequently affected. Retaining the previous tooth is one way of preserving space and delaying the definitive prosthetic decision. A literature review found pathology-free survival rates of 82-89% over a period of 5-13 years. In addition to caries and gingivitis, infraocclusion or root resorption are typical biological complications.
